The Orlando Repertory Theatre Awards!
Orlando Repertory Theatre, one of Central Florida's oldest and most respected professional theatre companies, presents Orlando Repertory Theatre Awards, a program recognizing excellence in high school musical theatre achievement in Orange, Seminole, and Osceola Counties. All public and private high schools producing a musical between August 12, 2010 and May 1, 2011 are eligible.
The Orlando Repertory Theatre Awards (ORTA) program was created to recognize, encourage, and support high school drama and music programs and reward students and teachers for their hard work and creativity. The Orlando Repertory Theatre's goals in creating the program are multi-faceted:
- To recognize and celebrate high school theater students in Central Florida
- To encourage students and educators to support one another's musicals
- To discover and support young talent in Central Florida
- To encourage and promote strong high school musical theatre performance technique
The following is a short explanation of the Orlando Repertory Theatre Awards` process. Please see the accompanying Rules and Guidelines for more details. A complete set of documents, including an e-application form and Frequently Asked Questions, are available on this page.
- All eligible high school drama programs wishing to participate in the Orlando Repertory Theatre Awards (ORTA) must first fill out an e-application form and submit at least 30 days prior to the first public performance of their musical.
- Orlando Repertory Theatre next sends experienced and trained evaluators to each participating school and adjudicates the production's strengths in 14 predetermined categories.
- On May 9, 2011, nominations will be announced.
- A gala ceremony at Orlando Repertory Theatre will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 to celebrate and honor the best in Central Florida high school talent.
