Classic and Contemporary Stories Brought to Life with The REP's 2010-2011 Season

Orlando, FL –March 24, 2010
– The Orlando Repertory Theatre (REP) invites families to experience the finest in family theatre during their 2010-2011 season. This season, The REP brings to life classic and contemporary stories with a season that includes Pippi Longstocking, The House at Pooh Corner, Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!, Anne Frank & Me, Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type, and Disney’s My Son Pinocchio.  Continuing its commitment to producing the finest in family theatre, The REP proudly offers an affordable family experience that will enlighten, entertain and enrich families and children of all ages.
"We’re excited about the next season as we present stories that celebrate families and friends-themes that are fully explored in each of the upcoming productions,” says Jeffrey Revels, Artistic Director at The REP.  “With the ongoing cuts to arts education in schools, The REP is proudly able to continue to provide theatrical experiences that harmoniously exist with school state standards. Our children need these stories, as we are a storytelling species, and we are committed to bringing the very best to our community.”
The Orlando Repertory Theatre’s 2009-2010 season was one of the strongest to date, with more then 56,000 people experiencing the finest in family theatre. Below is the full line up of the Orlando Repertory Theatre’s 2010-2011 season:
Pippi Longstocking
September 11- October 10, 2010
Story by Astrid Lindgren
Adapted for the Stage by Thomas W. Olson
Music Composed by Roberta Carlson
The classic heroine in red braids turns the town upside down!  Dressed in her unique style and living with only her horse and pet monkey, Pippi possesses untold wealth, super strength, and an eccentric outlook on life that aid in her madcap adventures.  This high-spirited musical takes us inside the Villa Villekulla and beyond!
The House at Pooh Corner
October 9 – November 7, 2010
By A.A. Milne
Adapted by Bettye Knapp
The Hundred Acre Wood is buzzing as Pooh and Piglet decide to build a house for Eeyore, a peculiar new animal called Tigger arrives, and Christopher Robin frets as he is about to be sent away to a place called Education.  All the classic A.A. Milne characters bring this charming story to life and remind us all that friendship makes anything possible.
Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!
November 13 – December 19, 2010
A play by Allison Gregory
Adapted from the book series by Barbara Park
Junie B. Jones is back and just in time for the holidays!  With Tattletale May around, it is impossible for Junie B. to enjoy all the festivities like elf costumes, the class play, and singing joyful songs.  Will Room One’s Secret Santa be the perfect opportunity to give May exactly what she deserves?
Anne Frank & Me (A Sideways Series Production)
January 29 – February 27, 2011
By Cherie Bennett
Story by Cherie Bennett with Jeff Gottesfeld, based on their novel
Nicole Burns is a modern teen that doubts the truth and cares even less.  When her class reads The Diary of Anne Frank, we learn that Nicole and her parents are Holocaust deniers.   Through incredible twists, she ultimately comes face-to-face with the horror of the Holocaust, and—in an extraordinary sequence—meets Anne Frank on a cattle car to Auschwitz.  We start out with Nicole in today's teen world of MTV, Hip-hop dancing, unfinished homework assignments, and young love are all transported with her to Nazi-occupied Paris, 1942-44, and then are brought forward again to the light and hope of the present.
Click, Clack, Moo:  Cows That Type
February 26 – March 27, 2011
Adapted from the Book by Doreen Cronin
Illustrations by Betsy Lewin
Adapted by James E. Grote
Music by George Howe
Lyrics by George Howe and James E. Grote
When Farmer Brown hears more clicking and clacking than mooing, he knows something is wrong. The cows discover an old typewriter and quickly unite with the other animals to stand up for their rights and demand better working conditions!  Duck is there to assist these literate bovines in this toe-tapping, barnyard musical.
Disney’s My Son Pinocchio
April 16 – May 22, 2011
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz
Book by David Stern
Combining original songs with classics such as When You Wish Upon A Star and I’ve Got No Strings, Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz creates a magical, adventurous, fresh take on the fairy tale about the wooden puppet, Pinocchio.  As Pinocchio struggles with the truth on his way to becoming a real boy, Geppetto struggles with the demands of becoming a new parent.  The Blue Fairy, reveling in her fame, shows up to save her reputation of excellent wish-fulfilling as Geppetto and Pinocchio learn what it takes to become a family. Like Wicked, this is a familiar tale told from a different perspective!
